Illustrating the Journey of Alzheimer’s
In 2018, I lost my mom to early onset Alzheimer’s. One year later with time to heal and reflect, I’ve been inspired to design a book that illustrates the journey of Alzheimer’s. Through a series of illustrations and text, this art book will explore the journey of Alzheimer’s from diagnosis, to death, to the way in which individuals cope and carry on after the passing of a loved one.
I’m currently traveling between Japan and Los Angeles to collect stories, conduct observations, volunteer in nursing homes and connect with experts in the field to develop the content for this book. The tentative publication goal is summer 2020.
*I am currently conducting interviews with people who have been touched by Alzheimer’s and would be willing to share their story with me. If you would like to connect, please don’t hesitate to reach out at: nasrin@nasrinjafari.com
I hope that my work will do justice to this incredibly vulnerable experience and that my book will be a helpful guide for others who are touched by this illness. You can follow this project and my other design work on ig: @nhjafari
